The So Danca SD16VG Vegan Ballet Shoes bring a vegan alternative to one of So Danca's most recognisable stretch canvas ballet shoe designs. Based around the familiar SD16 performance concept, this version combines premium stretch canvas with vegan micro-suede toe and heel pads, allowing dancers to choose an animal-free construction without giving up the lightweight, flexible feel they expect from a modern split sole ballet shoe.
Stocked in B medium width, the SD16VG sits closely around the foot with a smooth, second-skin feel. Pre-sewn crossed elastics keep the shoe secure, while the drawstring-free construction creates a clean finish through the topline. Available in Pink, White and Black, it's an uncomplicated vegan studio shoe designed for regular ballet training.
So Danca SD16VG Personality
Vegan • Second-Skin • Flexible • Reliable
The SD16VG doesn't need to reinvent the SD16. Its strength is that dancers looking for a vegan ballet shoe can still have the familiar close-fitting stretch canvas construction, flexible split sole and clean studio silhouette that make this family so versatile.
The stretch canvas sits smoothly against the foot rather than creating unnecessary bulk, while the split sole allows excellent freedom through the forefoot and arch. It's simple, responsive and easy to understand, a practical vegan alternative for dancers who want their ballet shoes to feel light and connected.
SD16VG Vegan Stretch Canvas Ballet Shoes - Design & Performance
The premium stretch canvas upper follows the contours of the foot, creating a close, streamlined fit while allowing natural movement through every tendu, relevé and point. The split sole construction keeps the shoe flexible beneath the arch and metatarsals, supporting excellent articulation and close connection with the studio floor.
The defining difference from the traditional SD16 is underneath the foot. Instead of conventional suede, the SD16VG uses vegan micro-suede alternative toe and heel pads, maintaining an animal-free material direction while providing the contact points required from a split sole ballet shoe.
Pre-sewn crossed elastics secure the shoe neatly across the instep, while the elasticated drawstring-free topline creates a smooth finish without cords to adjust or tuck away. The universal construction allows either shoe to be worn initially on either foot before gradually adapting through regular wear.
In B medium width, this is our standard-width vegan SD16 and the natural starting point for dancers with medium feet. Dancers who enjoy the same construction but need additional forefoot room can move to the separate SD16VG C wide fitting.

Dance World Expert Tip
If you're choosing between the traditional SD16 B and SD16VG B, fit and performance don't need to be the deciding factor - material preference can be. Both sit within the same close-fitting stretch canvas family, while the SD16VG replaces the traditional suede contact pads with a vegan micro-suede alternative. Choose this version if maintaining a vegan dance wardrobe is important to you.
So Danca SD16VG Width B Fit Advice
Advanced & Professional Dancers
For a close performance fit, we recommend approximately ½–1 UK size above measured foot length. The SD16VG has the same smaller, close-fitting character we associate with the SD16 family, so dancers between sizes may prefer the larger option.
Growing Students & Adult Beginners
For most dancers, approximately 1–1½ UK sizes above measured foot length provides a comfortable everyday ballet fit while maintaining the smooth, second-skin appearance of the stretch canvas.
First Ballet Shoes & Young Dancers
For first ballet shoes and younger dancers, approximately 1½–2 UK sizes above measured foot length usually provides comfortable growing room while maintaining a secure ballet fit.
Width B Fit Note
B is the medium-width version and our recommended starting point for dancers with standard or medium-width feet. If the length feels correct but the shoe feels restrictive across the forefoot or metatarsals, consider the SD16VG C wide fitting rather than simply adding unnecessary shoe length.
Dance World Fit Advice is intended as a helpful starting point rather than a guarantee of fit. For the most accurate fit, always measure the dancer's foot rather than relying on everyday shoe size. Foot shape, width and personal preference all influence the ideal fit.
